A Case Management Approach
This program is designed
explicitly to improve student success, retention and persistence for Basic
Skills students. Program advisor speaks with students regarding work habits,
attendance, student outlook, personal finance, day care issues, etc. Program
staff assists students with obtaining referrals, aids, tutors, etc. Before
classes begin, program staff provide emotional support, counseling, etc. A case
management model is used to tailor intervention to unique needs of the
students. This can range, based on student needs, from one brief session to
several hours and multiple visits.

College Achievement Program
(CAP)
This program provides an academic
success course which brings student services (career, academic, financial
aid, tutoring) into the classroom. Students are taught time management, study
skills, small group communication, prioritization, etc. Skills for reading,
writing, and mathematics are a central component. Faculty across the programs
volunteer to participate. Faculty responsibilities include monitoring student
progress, required one-on-one student conferences with CAP students, and guest
lectures in CAP courses.

Services (SSS)
This program is
federally-funded by a TRIO grant from the U.S. Department of Education. It
provides academic advising, tutoring, study skills workshops, financial aid
information, and mentoring for first generation, low-income, and disabled
students in order to assist them in graduating and/or transferring.

TRIO/Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS)
is a federally funded grant program through the U.S. Department of Education
that began serving LACC students in Spring, 1997. The program's target
population is low income, first generation or disabled students who have
identified transfer to a four-year university as their academic goal. The
program is designed to serve only 160 students and is therefore able to provide
personalized, timely service to all members.
